Pianoteq is a software keyboard instrument family from Modartt that uses virtual modeling techniques to emulate the piano, harpsichord, electric piano and vibraphone. It runs in either stand-alone mode or as a VST/AU/RTAS musical instrument, is MIDI controlled, and runs on Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux platforms.

Modartt describes Pianoteq as being a "fourth-generation" piano (first generation being acoustic pianos, second generation electric pianos, and third generation being sample-based software pianos) In this fourth-generation piano instrument, the sound is created from scratch using mathematical algorithms to generate electric piano and acoustic piano sounds. To allow complete artistic control, there are several optional sampled acoustic noises added (such as pedal thump, key release, and hammer thumps) which all can be adjusted. The unique selection of physical parameters (available in the Standard and Pro versions) is especially appealing to composers and studio engineers who require powerful sound-shaping possibilities.

Polyverse Music is a company dedicated to collaborations with the most innovative musicians of our age to create musical instruments and tools for fellow musicians.

This is why we have chosen Infected Mushroom as the first artists to work with – and the results are fantastic.

After developing Erez Eisen’s initial idea into a prototype plugin, Infected went to the studio to try the plugin, and discovered numerous other uses and features for it than originally anticipated. As we perfected the plugin Infected were using it all over their new album, finding exciting new ways of using it and ideas to improve the plugin.

We call this creation process “artistic feedback“, and it is the fuel for our creative engine!

Stay tuned for many more gems from our collaboration with Infected Mushroom and others.

Yours truly,
The Polyverse Music team
