Music Software Trade Assoc.) and SAE Institute NY as they host IMSTA FESTA, a celebration of music technology packed with Panels, Workshops & Master Classes, Song Critiques, Demonstrations and more. Hosting industry experts in an environment where music-makers can network, interact and learn with each other face-to-face, this annual one-day event is not to be missed. IMSTA FESTA is a FREE event open to everyone in the music making community; professional and semi-professional musicians, songwriters, music producers, and audio engineers, as well as music students and educators.

NEW YORK 2023 MASTER CLASS SERIES

IMSTA is thrilled to present another exceptional Master Class Series at IMSTA FESTA New York 2023. Our esteemed lineup of industry leaders will be sharing their invaluable insights on music production and engineering, along with crucial aspects of music business and legal affairs. Get ready for an inspiring and enriching experience that celebrates the art of music!

Overview: Busy Works Beats is a music producer, a music production trainer, a speaker, and an entrepreneur with extensive experience in the music and media industry. Busy Works Beats has successfully trained over 900,000 music producers globally, some of whom have proceeded to collaborate with renowned artists including Drake, Kanye West, Post Malone, Ariana Grande, French Montana, J.Cole, Trippie Redd, Lil Baby, and many more.

Overview: This Master Class will take a deep dive into the inner workings of an original music, sync licensing, music supervision and clearance company, The Music Playground.
What is sync licensing?
How do I sign my track to a catalog?
What is a music supervisor?
What does a typical brief look like?
We’ll start with a general overview of the company and then float through different examples of past work to explain the difference in the processes of creating an original track vs licensing a catalog band and artist track vs licensing a celebrity track. We will delve into the importance of the relationships fostered between music houses and advertising agencies, brands, sync agents, music supervisors, and creative directors, what it is like to work with these people and how to get your foot in the door.

Presenter: Sydney is a strong stakeholder in music, advertising, branded content and entertainment. She is the President and Executive Producer running three successful companies: The Music Playground, The Diner and The Station. Sydney is an adept music industry leader. At The Music Playground and The Diner, she manages original music creation, band and artist licensing, production music, music supervision and clearance, sound design and audio-post for advertising, television, and film. She even had the pleasure of singing on a broadcast McDonald's commercial.

At The Station she produces full-service projects, from creative ideation through finishing. She has an expansive knowledge of executing live-action and still photography productions with a focus in commercial advertising and branded content. Aside from her full-time jobs, Sydney is an active member of the Rolling Stone Culture Council, a guest lecturer at the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports, and Entertainment and has been on the Telly Awards judging council for the past two years. When she's not working you can find her hitting the slopes on her snowboard or rocking out on vocals with some local musicians.

Overview: This informative master class aims to help you navigate the most common agreements used in the music industry. Some of the agreements discussed will include band agreements, publishing agreements, distribution agreements, and licensing agreements. The session will highlight your rights, obligations, and potential pitfalls associated with contracts.

Presenter: Rob Thony, Principal Attorney at Robert Thony Law PLLC, is an entertainment and intellectual property attorney who helps artists, entertainers and entrepreneurs protect and monetize their creative works and their professional brand. Rob has spent over 10 years as an attorney working with music producers, recording artists, and independent record labels in helping them strike the best deals possible in the everchanging landscape of new and emerging tech platforms, relevant law, and political sentiment.

A musician and music producer himself, he believes wholeheartedly in the enormous value creators bring to the industry, and the need for those creators to safeguard and leverage that value artistically and monetarily.

Overview: Join Roey Shamir in an engaging master class on "in the box" mixing using stock plugins and hybrid analog techniques. Learn how to develop an accurate ear for mixing, get practical tips and exercises, and achieve remarkable results in your mixes. Roey will also discuss the delicate balance of enhancing a song without overshadowing its message. Explore techniques and cutting-edge approaches that add depth to your mixes for an immersive listening experience.

Presenter: Roey Shamir is highly skilled in all aspects of music/audio production, recording, mixing, and mastering with over 40 years of professional audio engineering experience and accolades. Roey has recorded and mixed songs that have been recognized by several GRAMMY Award nominations; as well as RIAA multi-platinum sales and awards for songs released by major and indie American record labels. Rob Harkness - Avid

Rob Harkness is a producer, engineer, and multi-instrumentalist with over twenty years of experience in the music industry. After graduating from Berklee College of Music, Rob relocated to Los Angeles where he ran a successful recording studio. His work as a producer culminated in doing artist development for Sony/ATV, Kobalt Music, and RBC Records. Rob is an Associate Professor at both Musicians Institute College of Contemporary Music in Los Angeles and SAE Institute in New York City, teaching various courses on music production and engineering.



RICH CRESCENTI - MELODYNE

Rich Crescenti is a freelance engineer, producer, educator, and drummer working out of several studios in NYC. Rich has played music for over 30 years, made recordings for over 20 years, and has over 10,000 actual teaching hours. Whether behind the glass or behind the kit, Rich helps bands make unique music and recordings.



Taiwan "Mr. Fingaz" Green - Acon Digital

Mr. Fingaz boasts an impressive music production record, with hits such as "Holla Holla" by Ja Rule, as well as other songs like "From My Hood to Your Hood," "Angel," and "Pov City Anthem." Proficient in various instruments, he has contributed to tracks by Jay Z, Mariah Carey, and others. He imparts his expertise as an educator, teaching music production to urban youth, all while accumulating RIAA awards and showcasing innovations at conventions. His talents also extend to live performances, including playing for Taio Cruz. Taiwan "Mr. Fingaz" Green's journey from a gifted pianist to an award-winning producer and mentor underscores his steadfast dedication to music, cementing his industry legacy.



Noel Jasso - Baby Audio

Noel Jasso is a Grammy-Nominated session drummer and composer from Los Angeles, California. He has toured and recorded for artists worldwide and has had his music placed on television shows, video games, and films. Noel is also a Co-Founder of Hey Pete Productions, an NYC-based production company specializing in Music Composition, Sound Design, & Audio Post Production.



Sam Ventura - NUGEN Audio

Sam Ventura is a Juno-Nominated Audio Engineer, Music Producer, Mixing Engineer, Mastering Engineer, Guitarist, and Composer that has toured nationally as a Guitarist and Music Director. Sam is also a Co-Founder of Hey Pete Productions, a NYC-based production company specializing in Music Composition, Sound Design, & Audio Post Production.



Omari Trinity - D16 GROUP

Omari Mtima is a multi-instrumental music producer, songwriter, and engineer from New York City. Omari grew up in a musical household his entire life, which has honed his expertise in sound and selecting the appropriate tools for each project. During his time in middle school, Omari played the snare drum, and upon entering high school, he mastered the entire drum set. As a result, his proficiency in drum programming shines when working with digital audio workstations (DAWs). Omari commenced his journey with music software at the tender age of 8; his initial choice was FL Studio. Over time, Omari developed a deep affinity for the piano. Although drums initially captivated him, he delved into classical and jazz piano studies.



Bill Collins - GPU Audio

Bill Collins is a Chicago-based music producer, educator and product specialist for GPU Audio who has been actively performing and producing music for over 20 years. His music can be heard on several major television networks and is published by Sony/ATV and Universal Music Publishing Group. Bill is also the Editor for The Pro Audio Files, and served as Course Director for the Los Angeles Film School from 2010-2017.



Nick Gallick - FabFilter

Nick Gallick has always possessed a deep connection with both music and sound. He has cultivated a range of skills and experience in many fields of audio including songwriting, music production, film, and post-production. After receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Audio Recording & Business Management from Five Towns College, he began working in various studios on Long Island, NY. He’s currently an audio instructor at SAE Institute NYC, a freelance engineer, and a guitar teacher.



DERRICK FLOYD - IK MULTIMEDIA

Artist, Musician, Songwriter, Life Coach, Motivational Speaker, are just a few of the words that describe Derrick Floyd. By day, he is the National Sales and Product Specialist Manager for the ground breaking music technology company, IK Multimedia who is one of the leaders in making professional software tools for musicians, producers and engineers all over the world. Also being the pioneers of mobile recording revolution with the invention of the iRig family of portable recording products has given Derrick a front roll seat at the helm of the constant evolving world of creative music technology products.



Adisa Mtima - FL Studio

In the 90s, Adisa Mtima's musical journey started with a Roland R-8 drum machine, an Atari 1040 STE with EditTrack software, a Yamaha sequencer, and an SMPTE Box for Tascam Portastudio syncing. In the early 2000s, he embraced Cakewalk Pro Audio 5 and early FL Studio, then known as Fruity Loops, with MIDI functionality. Adisa completed an audio program at DMX Touro College. Notably, he taught audio at Riker's Island jail, introducing students to Cakewalk Sonar and FL Studio, also using ADAT for Teen Talk Radio on Channel 25 NYC. Adisa also taught Korean students through an online sequencing program during a Taste Of College program.

Holly Rybnick - McDSP

Holly Rybnick is an Audio Engineer based out of New York City. Currently, she works with Gibson Entertainment Services but can also be found as an engineer at The Irish Arts Center and The Knitting Factory. Holly recently moved back to the East Coast from Los Angeles, where she was an audio engineer at a few concert venues. As a graduate of Ithaca College and a born and raised East Coast girl, she is very happy to be back in New York. When she is not working, Holly loves to spend her time on Long Island Sound on the boat with her family and her dog.



Richard Gaspard - PRESONUS

Richard Gaspard, product specialist at PreSonus Audio Electronics, is a multi-talented professional. He's a bassist, singer, producer, arranger, voice artist, and Grammy-nominated recording engineer. His extensive career includes mixing over three thousand live and pre-taped TV broadcasts, as well as short films, radio, TV, and internet commercials, and numerous music recording projects. A native of Southwest Louisiana, Richard graduated from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in 1994 with a degree in contemporary music media. He resides in Baton Rouge, LA with his wife, and together, they form the duo Highs and Lows Music, showcasing their musical talents HERE.



Luis Tineo - PSPaudioware

Luis Tineo also known as Sabor (pronounced/ Saab-or) is an american music producer, music & film mix engineer & DJ. Studied in NYC at Center for the Media Arts and best known for his extensive work catalog as a sound engineer at some of the top recording studios in the NY area like the legendary hip-hop studio D&D & Chung King with credits that are considered to be iconic projects in the Hip-Hop and Dance music genres.



Troy Valentine - Sound Theory

Troy Valentine immersed himself in music as a child, mastering theory, rhythm, and timeless melodies. Learning from blended recordings, he grasped balanced mixes. A skilled keyboardist, he excelled in arrangement and sound craft. In NYC, he witnessed tape wizardry, analog consoles, EQ, and reverb artistry. Using a Mac with Opcode Vision, he controlled MIDI keyboards, synths, and drum machines synced to an 8-track Tascam. After recording, he perfected mix artistry, transferring tracks for final touches on DAT and cassettes. Transitioning to FL Studio and PreSonus Studio One, Troy now thrives as a beatmaker, using plugins to replicate studio hardware. Maturing in mastering, he integrates years of mixing wisdom into his sonic journey.



Andrew Bostwick - SONARWORKS

Andrew Bostwick is an audio engineer based in New York City. He began his career in audio as a singer-songwriter, self-learning music production, before enrolling in SAE Institute of Technology in New York. He followed those studies up by enrolling in Berklee College of Music, pursuing a degree in Songwriting and Music Production. He currently works as a studio technician for SAE in New York, a podcast editor, and as a live sound engineer with The Bowery Presents.



Wilkis Figuereo - SONIBLE

Wilkis Figuereo is a CEO, Entrepreneur, Producer and Engineer with over 20 years experience. He is the owner of Itec Audio Studios in New Jersey, one of the premier Avid Authorized training centers in the North East United States. Wilkis also serves as an Educational Consultant for Music Production programs across the nation and a partner of NYU’s Hip Hop Education Center.



FRANK SLATER - SONNOX

Frank Slater has been working in audio for over 20 years and lives in Union Beach, NJ. He is a long time music education teacher and has teaching certifications in Pro Tools and Sonnox. He is currently working on a book with Frank Cook for the new Pro Tools Artist software as part of the Avid Learning Academy.



EZRA OUELLETTE - SOUNDTOYS

Ezra Ouellette is a musician, artist, and Senior Support Technician at Soundtoys, Inc. He joined Soundtoys in March 2019 and works in the Burlington, VT headquarters. Outside of work, Ezra is a self-taught music enthusiast, creating electronic tunes on his laptop and hardware synths. Soundtoys plug-ins are a constant in his music projects. Besides music, he values time with loved ones and his cats, Roland and Casio. Recently relocating to Brooklyn, he's enjoying its diverse restaurant scene.
